Project for Increasing Traffic Safety on Motorways A1 and A4 through the Implementation of ITS Systems
The objective of the project is to enhance traffic safety by implementing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) on key sections of Croatian motorways, thereby improving the systems for traffic control, monitoring, and management, and ensuring a higher level of road safety.
The project encompasses three interrelated activities:
- Improvement of traffic management on diversion routes along the A1 motorway section from the Gornja Ploča interchange to the Vodice interchange,
- Upgrade of existing over-dimensioned vehicle detection systems on the A1 motorway in the tunnel portal zones of Mala Kapela and Sveti Rok,
- Establishment of remote control of half-barriers (ramps) for the purpose of using emergency pavement connections in front of tunnel portals on motorways A1 and A4.
The goal of the project is to increase the safety and efficiency of road traffic through the modernization of ITS infrastructure. By implementing modern ITS solutions, centralized and automated real-time traffic management will be enabled, increasing motorway throughput and safety levels and ensuring more reliable and secure travel.
The project is co-financed through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
